The sweater is gorgeous! I totally agree with you on the choices for 4yo's. I am always nastalgic whenever one of mine passes the "baby" stage and sadly we will have no more babies - I will just have to enjoy each of them at older stages :o)

I found this blog a couple of years ago and check in once in a while to see your awesome knits. Your most recent entry really touched my heart, so I decided to write.

My "babies" are 27, 24 and 17 and I do remember that realization moment when they were "kids" rather than infants or toddlers.

I did not knit for the kids much when they were small, but I did sew up a storm for them. Like you, I tried to get all the cute patterns used before they got too big. I sewed everything for them (well, not undies... though I did actually buy the patterns for those too!). If the needed playclothes, costumes, PJs, bathing suits, sweats, fancy holiday clothes, quilts, drapes... Mom made it and I loved doing it.

As sad as it can seem to leave a phase behind, the excitement of each new one makes up for it. After all, what is that we want for our children most?....that they Grow Up into happy and healthy and self-reliant individuals.

You are right that "it goes so fast" (and then there are days when it doesn't "go fast enough" -- LOL) As much as I loved my wee ones, I can't imagine life without these wonderful young adults the wee ones have become. They are my greatest joy and my best friends in all the world.

And yes, they still "need" Mom to help them out once in a while (and vice-versa, like today with my car on the blink the 24 year old was able to come over and take the 17 year old to school).

I remember when my two oldest were teens and I would lament the fact that they were "Growing up so fast" then one of them would do some bonehead thing and I would be reassured that "No, they weren't really growing up as fast as I thought!"

Oh they grow so quickly! I'm glad you were able to come up with such a cute pattern -- he really looks more like a little man, now, rather than a toddler. Our grandbaby will soon be out of toddler clothes, so I'll be looking to you to start designing in larger sizes!

I have Ann Budd's book "Knitter's Handy Book Of Sweater Patterns" (http://www.interweave.com/knit/books/knitters_handy_sweaters.asp) and its great for creating sweaters from newborn to adult. You are so fluent in English and so creative that I bet you could come up with amazing patterns for your guys to wear!
It is too bad about the lack of French patterns though. We get the complaints at the shop a lot that the books we have aren't in French (but they don't come in French!) and that good French patterns are hard to come by.
There is a definite market and individual patterns sold in yarn shops can be very lucrative for a good bilingual designer such as yourself. ;oD

My son is in the rapid adolescent growth phase boys go through and its obvious even he's having trouble grasping how quickly he's growing. In his mind's eye he's still a young kid and he's surprised when people respond to him as the big, tall, muscular, young man his appearance and manner conveys - its no wonder as mom's we struggle to keep up. Don't worry though, motherhood and the phases of kid's development just keep on coming - enjoy each for what it is and you'll be amazed at how things stop seeming to pass quickly so much as just change regularly (and in my experience) always for the better!
