My pinwheel!

I finished it! I finished it! I pulled it out of its hiding place, found some needles, grafted, cursed, grafted again, knit some, grafted, cursed, searched the house for more yarn, unravelled part of the first sleeve to salvage enough yarn to finish the second one, soaked, blocked and admired my lovely pinwheel ;0)

Isn't she beautiful? I started her this summer and then put her aside during those dark days of early pregnancy when knitting made me nauseous. When I picked her up again, the sleeves tested my patience (I knit them upside down!) and I buried the whole thing in a grocery bag at the bottom of Julian's diaper bag. I dug it out this week in an effort to come clean about all the projects that were still unfinished and it was worth it! Here's a picture of the back...

Looking at it in all of it's blocked beauty I can't help but wonder why I almost gave up on it in the first place. Seriously, I had planned on loosing it forever! The only little itsy bitsy problem it still poses is that I knit it for my cute little neighbourette who just turned 3 (actually, that's not true...her birthday was in June!!! See what I mean about procrastinating?) and let's just say that while my Pinwheel is the same "size" as it was when I started it this spring, it's intended recipient just kept on growing and growing as little ones tend to and I'm not sure if it will fit. Of course the only way to find out for sure would be for her to try it one but I'm too afraid that it might not fit and don't want to break her precious little heart.

Anyone out there have an average sized 3-year old? Please help a procrastinating knitter out, won't you? Please? I need to know about sleeve width, sleeve length and waist measurements.

Do tell...

  1. The sweater looks beautiful!!!
These are the measurements that I took from my 3 year old daughter for you.
    11-12" from shoulder to wrists
Her arms are 7 1/2" around at the thikest part
She's 23" around the chest and 24" around the waist (she's got a chubby belly). :-) I hope this helps you out a bit.

  2. That's beautiful! Hooray for FOs!

The good thing about a little recipient who grew is that there is always another little recipient coming... Hope it works out!

  6. Anny, it's simply beautiful! The colours are so pretty...whomever will receive it (be it your neighbour's daughter or someone unknown to you) will just love it!

You could always donate it...are there any organizations (be it at churches or elsewhere) where you could drop it off so that it could be given to some little girl for Christmas?

Seeing your little sweater makes me think about possibly making one myself - is it a hard pattern to make?

  10. Anny,

Everything you've made is beautiful!!! I absolutely *heart* the Mary doll. And Julian looks so grown up! Where did all that hair come from? I am alive and well, but haven't been blogging much. Glad to see that you are! I'll try to catch up later.

    love,

  11. The sweater looks adorable, and I am sure it will fit. I will keep my fingers crossed for you that it will fit, and I am sure she will love it. If not, put it in a keepsake chest for when you have a little girl of your own.

Great job on the pinwheel! I think the only size that matters is the back. The sleeves can be a bit shorter and the cardi is certainly long enough and you don't have to worry about getting the sweater over a big baby head like with a pullover!

  18. I'm about to embark on a pinwheel, I think. But I have 2 little girls to make them for and one is 6 years old. Is there a larger version out there that would fit a 6 yo?

  20. I'm about 90% of the way through this pattern myself and can't figure out how (or where) the provisionally cast on stitches for the sleeves are supposed to be joined to the sweater. Any hints?
