One week

Well it's been one week already since our little lolo joined the nest and I think we're going to keep him ;0)

He's a great nurser and a good sleeper and we're all adjusting nicely to our new family. And though there were many "what did we get ourselves into" moments last week, I'm beginning to feel more confident about being outnumbered 2 to 1 when daddy returns to work in 5 weeks time. Okay, not really but I thought I'd exercise some positive thinking! Renee, how did you do it?

There hasn't been all that much knitting time since we returned from the hospital with our new bundle of joy but I've kept the anniversary sweater close-by and knit on it every chance I get. I now have the back done and probably 3/4 of the front.

I didn't wash and block my swatch and am now wondering how the Rowan All Season's Cotton will react to a soak. Will it grow? Anyone have any experience with this stuff? I think I may have to block the back to see but it seems there is no where left for me to let my knits block anymore now that Julian actually sleeps in his bed. I think I may have to make myself a blocking board one of these days.

Oh, someone's getting hungry again. Got to go ;0)

  1. I am rather worried about the "what did we get ourselves into" moments. Glad to hear they are temporary.
Good news that nursing is going well.

  6. It is great that your husband can stay home so long! Mine never did, and usually the weekend would be over and he went back and I was up at six each morning trying to get his lunch packed. I was stressed! After John (number 6) i was so overwhelmed the first morning....but after a few days and i got all the others to school and drove without the baby crying I went to starbucks to drive thru for my decaf Mocha to celebrate! Glad things are going so well!!!!!!
    Hang in there! :-)

What a beautiful family you have!
Your hubby is sooo lucky that he is getting a sweater made with Rowan cotton...I use it all the time for my baby items and it is fabulous. I have not had any problems with it stretching so I think you will be fine. And Logan looks so cozy in it already. I think the boys need matching sweaters!!!!

  11. Very nice picture!

We had our moments too but I also had a lot of help in the first six weeks or so. By then, Jillian had sort of settled and Claire was getting used to the idea of having a sister. It's great that your hubby is off for a while. E-mail me anytime if you need to chat or vent or whatever rsparkes1@cogeco.ca

  13. So sweet! It's been over 35 years for me so I only remember the lack of sleep, LOL. But he looks like he's trying to get some himself. Glad all is well. I don't have an answer for the blocking ... how the yarn reacts. BTW, if you make a blocking board just slide it under a bed for storage and you could even use the other side of the board for something else & give it double duty.

  14. What a darling baby! Re: your question about All Seasons Cotton ... I recently made a lace v-neck pullover with it from the Elann Free Patterns and while I didn't find it 'grew' with blocking, it most certainly did with wearing. I think you might be fine though, because you're doing cables, which are tighter than lace. Looks fabulous!

  15. He is just precious!! :) How wonderul that he sleeps and nurses like a champ. Yay!

My hubby was only off for 2 days plus the weekend when I had our first son. Wasn't SO bad since it was our only baby. With number two he was off a month and that was very nice since we had our routines down by the time he went back.

  17. You are so lucky to have your hubby home for so long. Mine only stayed home for 2 days and went back to work. Logan looks gorgeous and I am sure Julian loves him to bits too. Is he coping okay with being a big brother. Love the anniversary sweater too, it looks great. I knit my daughter a cardigan out Rowan All Seasons Cotton and it seemed to maintain its shape very well. I hope yours does too.

  18. First of all, congratulations! He is just so cute! And he looks really good in the sweater, is he and Julian getting matching ones to go with their dads?

Two kids definitely cuts in on the knitting time and there are now twice as many kids to knit for! Bummer. But they make up for it in loveliness. My youngest (22 months), just learned to kiss on the hand, which is a really good thing to know when she kills a ball of yarn!

  22. He is very cute! You shouldn't soak cotton. You damp block it. here is a good link for all your blocking needs.

I am a mom of 4, the last two only 13 months apart. I still wonder what I got myself into some times and my baby is now 16 months old. Hang in there. :)
